i thought it was time for a new journal, so i thought i'd recap on my first year of undertaking photography seriously. this is a blog post i wrote:

by the end of 2009, i had just settled into my new job as retoucher at blueprint studios, finished my first year of uni and had decided in my mind that i wanted to be a photographer and nothing else. when 2010started i was glued to my canon 5d mkii that i saved up all during 2009 for. i had my first proper shoot in january with a model and a makeup artist and it was the best feeling ever looking over the photos that night knowing that i created something from what was just an idea in my mind at first to real life during the shoot. in january i was also commissioned to create a series of three book covers, the last vampire by christopher pike and it was my first paid photography job that i am very happy to have done.

at the beginning of 2010 i wrote down a list of things that i wanted to do before the year ended, which just included shooting at least 10 bands and having at least 10 creative shoots with models. both of which i doubled at the very least! during the year my pictures kept appearing on book covers and album covers. i got to shoot the musicoz awards and two (of many others) bands that i love; midnight juggernauts & thirsty merc. i tried my hand at making short films and fell in love with how it works, have started playing music again and am confident in shooting with a creative team and working with models or whoever the subject i am shooting may be. i've also been introduced into the world of wedding photography which i am really enjoying bringing my style into and got to shoot my first editorial for thirst for vision magazine - something im going to be doing more of this year!

this year, i moved to wollongong which is an hour and a little bit away from dan and away from the city. which means being tired of travelling a lot every day, but im going to try and not let that get in the way of anything. im already going to shoot a wedding tomorrow, and have lots of plans to make this year amazing! i know i don't do it much at the moment, but im going to try and do "normal" blogging more often, along with some pictures, just to let you guys know what's going on!

let me know if there is something you'd like to see more of from me (: i'd be happy to hear about it!

for anyone still reading, i can't believe how far i've gotten looking back on just one year. i really couldn't have done it as well as i did without all the support i have from all you, i really appreciate every single comment and favourite i receive to this day. and i read absolutely everything you guys write, even if i don't have the time to reply to everyone individually.

anyway, im going to stop rambling because this post is long enough as it is. if you want to see my first few days of the new year in pictures, you can see them on my blog: www.jtrotti.blogspot.com and follow me as well if you have one! i post everything there first, things that i don't post anywhere else and before and afters of my photo manipulations!

where is one place you'd like to visit anywhere in the world this year?

I would like to visit Rome more than anything this year, but I'm planning a trip to London for the second time (I feel like I'm home there), so don't know if I'm gonna afford another trip :/

You should travel around Europe! I have only experienced London, France, Cyprus, Poland and Scandinavia were I live, and I'm going to Spain soon. But I so badly want to experience Italy, Iceland, Greece, Romania and France again. I have my whole life to do that hopefully (:

sorry for the late reply.. no i don't have an agent, i do it all myself. try and get as many features on blogs and interviews in magazines, soon enough word catches on and people are contacting me rather than the other way around.

the japanese mountains sound amazing! i would love to go to europe and south america. they are the top of my list.

it's great that life is being good to you :)
this year i want to go across the ocean to visit a very special friend in argentina! i'm still too young to travel alone, so maybe i'll have to wait a few years, but definitely something i intend to do in the future.

thank you! i hope last year and this year have/will treat you well. thank you so much by the way for following and supporting me over all these years, you have no idea how much it means to me!

hong kong and africa sound amazing, you need to write all about it once it happens. i think this year im going to start small and explore all over australia before going to new zealand, then i'll aim for something bigger! europe is definitely on my to do list as well as south america. if i get adventurous, i would also love to go to china or india.

Congrats! This was my first year really taking art seriously, as well. It's crazy to think of how much people are capable of growing in only a year!
I just really want to explore and find beautiful places close to where I live. One day I'll travel the world, but as a 15 year old, I'll stick to things in my area.

that's exactly what im doing as well, i want to explore things in australia first, then new zealand then move on to some big traveling. that's also really great that you started doing art seriously this year! hopefully things go well for you :) and it truly is amazing what can be accomplished in one year.

on the one hand, when its the end of the year you think its gone by so quickly, but at the same time looking back to where you started seems so far away!

Thank you ! *crossing fingers ;)*

I don't know much about the place but Poland is automatically linked to Chopin in my mind, with landscapes. And a new language, and history... Everything... unknown. :) What you just said just gives me even more motivation to get there, someday!
but for the moment being, i'll focus on where i am :)

europe is definitely on my to-do list, but probably in a few more years, im not sure if im ready for something so big yet. this year, i would love to travel more around australia, like adelaide, perth and melbourne. if by some chance those three get done, new zealand is next on the list.

Congratulations! That is so good to hear! :woohoo: I hope for even better things for you this year! :)

This year I would love to go back to California. It whispers at me when I sleep, and every time I look at the snow. And I miss the family that I have there. That might just happen for real. If it wasn't a matter of cost or reality, I would say New Zealand, once again to visit family and dig up more of my Grandparent's heritage. :)

How about you? Where would you go, given the chance?

that sounds really lovely, oh california would be amazing to visit, i would love to do that one day as well! also new zealand, which isn't actually very far from australia, but i've just never been there before.

as for this year, i want to explore more of my own country since i feel like i haven't done a great deal of that on my own. my best friend is moving to live in adelaide so i would love to fly down and visit her there for a while and i would love to go to melbourne again and also new zealand.

all in time though :) i have bigger plans once i've settled into the feeling of traveling. when you go to one place, doesn't matter how little, the feeling is contagious and you don't want to stop moving!

That sounds fantastic! Living in Canada, and especially British Columbia means that there is a lot to explore, and revisit. Especially when your friends start setting down roots in various other cities.:)

You are so right! Travel bugs bite hard! Exportation and things to see can cure the doldrums of life very quickly!

Best wishes as you travel! Being a photographer doesn't hurt either when it comes to travel. :)
