i thought it was time for a new journal, so i thought i'd recap on my first year of undertaking photography seriously. this is a blog post i wrote:
by the end of 2009, i had just settled into my new job as retoucher at blueprint studios, finished my first year of uni and had decided in my mind that i wanted to be a photographer and nothing else. when 2010started i was glued to my canon 5d mkii that i saved up all during 2009 for. i had my first proper shoot in january with a model and a makeup artist and it was the best feeling ever looking over the photos that night knowing that i created something from what was just an idea in my mind at first to real life during the shoot. in january i was also commissioned to create a series of three book covers, the last vampire by christopher pike and it was my first paid photography job that i am very happy to have done.
at the beginning of 2010 i wrote down a list of things that i wanted to do before the year ended, which just included shooting at least 10 bands and having at least 10 creative shoots with models. both of which i doubled at the very least! during the year my pictures kept appearing on book covers and album covers. i got to shoot the musicoz awards and two (of many others) bands that i love; midnight juggernauts & thirsty merc. i tried my hand at making short films and fell in love with how it works, have started playing music again and am confident in shooting with a creative team and working with models or whoever the subject i am shooting may be. i've also been introduced into the world of wedding photography which i am really enjoying bringing my style into and got to shoot my first editorial for thirst for vision magazine - something im going to be doing more of this year!
this year, i moved to wollongong which is an hour and a little bit away from dan and away from the city. which means being tired of travelling a lot every day, but im going to try and not let that get in the way of anything. im already going to shoot a wedding tomorrow, and have lots of plans to make this year amazing! i know i don't do it much at the moment, but im going to try and do "normal" blogging more often, along with some pictures, just to let you guys know what's going on!
let me know if there is something you'd like to see more of from me (: i'd be happy to hear about it!
for anyone still reading, i can't believe how far i've gotten looking back on just one year. i really couldn't have done it as well as i did without all the support i have from all you, i really appreciate every single comment and favourite i receive to this day. and i read absolutely everything you guys write, even if i don't have the time to reply to everyone individually.
anyway, im going to stop rambling because this post is long enough as it is. if you want to see my first few days of the new year in pictures, you can see them on my blog: www.jtrotti.blogspot.com and follow me as well if you have one! i post everything there first, things that i don't post anywhere else and before and afters of my photo manipulations!
where is one place you'd like to visit anywhere in the world this year?
and by the way, we still need to do a shoot together! we should plan something crazy.
i want to shoot some live gigs this year as well and do more high fashion/creative shoots. my work needs more exposure though
this year i want to go across the ocean to visit a very special friend in argentina! i'm still too young to travel alone, so maybe i'll have to wait a few years, but definitely something i intend to do in the future.
oh, and thank you!
and hopefully this year I want to go to either Hong Kong or maybe somewhere in Africaaa
hong kong and africa sound amazing, you need to write all about it once it happens. i think this year im going to start small and explore all over australia before going to new zealand, then i'll aim for something bigger! europe is definitely on my to do list as well as south america. if i get adventurous, i would also love to go to china or india.
I just really want to explore and find beautiful places close to where I live. One day I'll travel the world, but as a 15 year old, I'll stick to things in my area.
on the one hand, when its the end of the year you think its gone by so quickly, but at the same time looking back to where you started seems so far away!
